Reminiscing today about a weekend spent in Wine Heaven - Walla Walla (I know, the name of this city kept me giggling as well), a city southeast of Seattle best known for its sweet onions and WINE with over a 100 vineyards! Thought I'd share a few snaps from our time there.
We stayed at Maxwell's Bread & Breakfast and Penny, the innkeeper, was very welcoming and made us feel just at home :). Walking into her place, I was surprised to see it was a nicely restored 1902 historic home, with spotless rooms and very well thought out furnishing and decoration that kept us photographing every corner (literally) of Penny's lovely home! If I'm ever back in Walla Walla , I'd most likely be lodging here again. Oh, and the breakfast was super!
We got in pretty late from Leavenworth and didn't get explore a lot of wineries. Penny suggested we stop at Basel Cellars, a very elegant estate winery! I was stunned by its beauty driving in and throughout our stay there - truly breathtaking! Plus, the wine tasting was very well priced with a great wine selection and an intimate atmosphere. The perfect way to spend a summer evening for wine-lovers as ourselves, we couldn't get enough and ended up buying a bottle of Cabernet Franc!
The combination of the appealing, picturesque scenery, Penny's beautiful home, excellent wine and much more, made for a very pleasant trip and the perfect getaway! It was definitely worth the 4hr drive from Seattle. I've come to realize it's always refreshing taking time off to explore different areas, has me wanting to return sometime soon! Btw, in my book, this counts as one of those Washington state "hidden gems" I previously referred to - I wonder how I hadn't heard of it prior to visiting. I have never been to Napa Valley, but I hear it's comparable. :D
Anyways, hope you enjoyed my little Walla Walla photo-diary, and perhaps got a chance to experience it vicariously through this post! (:
