I have always wanted to visit New Orleans, and this weekend I got the pleasure of doing so and LOVED every bit of it! I found it rich with color, and at every turn was a story embedded in history. My best friend Jackie and I got lost exploring the French Quarter, but it quickly became an adventure as every street had a unique vibe to it. We walked around Royal Street and it felt like a whole new world, filled with art galleries, antique shops, fine dining, and some of the most stunning architecture in the city!
Afterwards we went on a hop-on hop-off tour around town and got to learn a lot about its history and experience its plethora of cultures. As a Jazz fan, I was particularly excited to see the bars where famous jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong and Ray Charles performed in! I highly recommend doing this tour (at least for one day) if you ever in New Orleans to get a good overview of the city. The tickets were valid for three days so we spent the first day taking notes of places we wanted to return to, and the next day exploring more streets, eating beignets, and watching Mardi Gras parades (photos to follow soon!).
Let's talk about the food in New Orleans! I learnt that there are three major types of cuisine in this city - Creole, Cajun and Southern food. For the longest time I couldn't tell the three apart, but it was a great learning experience and the food was delicious! I didn't get to capture a lot of our meals, most of the time I was too hungry to think about pulling out my camera, but in this photo I'm having fried catfish with the best sweet potato fries. Mmmm..:D
Later on at night, we went down Frenchmen Street which was literally Jazz Heaven. Most bars had no cover which made it easy to wander in and out and experience a variety of local artists and styles, from traditional jazz to reggae/island soul. Ahh, I want to go back already!

Enough gushing about one city for the night, but I hope you've enjoyed this mini-photo diary of my first day in New Orleans! Thank you for reading! Xx.
