SPRING SUMMER 17
Delpozo's Spring Summer 17 collection at the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) this passed week had me asking myself - "What is this wonder of art?!". It felt like yet another whimsical journey into the mind of the creative director, Josep Font. You know I'm a fan of all things fairy tale, but what is even more interesting with this collection is the contrast of that against bold geometric silhouettes and unexpected proportions. According to Font, lightness and transparency were his primary focus for this collection, conveying the ideas with light silhouettes and airy textures that make the models appear to float effortlessly down the runway. I'm always amazed by how creative directors gain inspiration from one source and tie it in with a collection that strikes a similar emotion.
Going back in time to Delpozo's first Resort collection earlier this year, I was immediately drawn in by the vivid bold colors, and architectural dresses. For his first ever resort collection, Delpozo was inspired by French cinematographer George Méliès, who was an avid filmmaker and magician, renowned for his erotic films and imaginary voyages. One of his more famous movie being - A Trip To the Moon. You can see this inspiration tied in elegantly from the oceanic themes and the contrast of bold colors against lovely pale hues. I find that it also has this futuristic and sci-fi element to it, the entire collection is just pure art!
The more I dabble into story telling with Fashion/wearable art, the more fascinated and inspired I am by lines like Delpozo and the creative mind that is Josep Font! To see more of their past collections, check out their site here, and learn more about Josep Font here. Happy Weekend! :)
